Bashercises

Welcome to Bashercises..!

Bashercises is currently a work in progress. It aspires to be a place to host original, quality content related to the bash shell and command language, as well as shell scripting in general.

The project is structured in the following way :

  • Chapter 1 :
  • Contains a hands-on introduction to most aspects of shell scripting.

  • Chapter 2 :
  • Contains exercises, where you can practice on problems simulating day-to-day sysadmin activities.

  • Chapter 3 :
  • Aims to provide best practices, general guidelines, and advanced outlooks on the design and architecture of more complex shell scripts. This section will be under active development, where community discourse, contributions, and different perspectives are greatly encouraged.

So, whether you need a concise introduction, a quick reference cheatsheet with quality examples, some exercises or some advanced perspective and ideas on how to structure a mature and stable project, I hope Bashercises will be a a place that suits your needs!

    Contributing

As you'd probably expect, the whole thing is Open Source. The project is currently hosted on this Github repo, under the MIT licence.

Community members are welcome to raise issues, open pull requests, and generally contribute in any way they see fit. So, whether you'd like to correct a typo, offer an idea for a new article, tell a Bash-related war story, or offer an insight, do not hesitate!

I plan to keep this whole thing ad-free and analytics-free, so I don't expect any income to share, but I'll make sure to credit your contribution in the About page, and you'll have my warmest thanks.
